THE FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY (FSU)/ASOLO CONSERVATORY FOR ACTOR TRAINING shares a unique relationship with Asolo Repertory Theatre. The theatre and Conservatory have a dual role in training approximately 36 graduate students each year who are striving to obtain their Masters of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree here in Sarasota. The curriculum combines intensive laboratory work in acting, speech, voice, movement and text with workshops in a wide range of disciplines and professional production experience. Upon graduation, all students are eligible to join the Actors’ Equity Association and enter the ranks of this country’s most highly regarded professional artists.
Our graduates have appeared on and off – Broadway, in regional theatre, in feature films and on television.
This distinctive partnership provides class sizes that are small, often allowing one-on-one training with our faculty of teaching artists. Students perform in significant roles side-by-side with Equity actors from Asolo Repertory Theatre, developing strong artistic relationships with seasoned professionals. While FSU pays for each student’s tuition, Asolo Rep supports each student through a $7,500 fellowship. These fellowships provide critical support to the students who need to pay for their own housing, food and clothing and who cannot take on part-time employment as they are required to immerse themselves totally in their studies and performances. Through this intensive program, students connect with real audiences – bridging school and the profession through hands-on experience working in the classroom as well as on the Cook, Mertz and Historic Asolo stages. If you are interested in donating to the FSU/Asolo Conservatory Fellowship program, please contact Karen Misantone at 941.351.9010 x4706 or Karen_Misantone@asolo.org.
