10-MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL
AND STUDENT FILM SCREENING
Presenting a Not-So-Late, Late Night Series Event
Sarasota, FL (September 12, 2005) – The FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training and Florida State University present the inaugural FSU/Asolo 10-Minute Play Festival and Student Film Screening. Best described as a “happening,” the festival is a unique and creative collaboration between FSU’s writers and filmmakers and the FSU/Asolo Conservatory actors and faculty as they present the Sarasota premiere of their original short plays and films.
Over the summer of 2005, the award-winning, top-ranked FSU Film School worked with a number of Asolo Conservatory actors on a series of six-minute films. The Conservatory actors traveled to Tallahassee for several two-day shoots throughout the summer, and were featured in nine, short films.
These films were first shown to an audience of 600 people at a screening in Tallahassee in August 2005. The goal was to bring a similar event to Sarasota where directors, film school faculty, and Conservatory actors and faculty will come together as a next step in furthering the relationship between FSU’s Tallahassee campus, the prestigious film school, and the Conservatory.
Greg Leaming explains, "Florida State University is developing a huge crop of young artists. While our young actors are training here, the next generation of playwrights, directors and screenwriters are developing in Tallahassee. This very special 10 minute play festival and this screening of new films, is our chance to bring all of these young artists together and introduce them to the very exciting audiences in Sarasota."
This event was conceived as a way to create synergy between all of FSU’s programs, and give audiences in both Sarasota and Tallahassee a chance to meet this outstanding next generation of actors, playwrights, filmmakers and screenwriters.
The happening will take place in the Jane B. Cook Theatre at 5555 North Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. It is a FREE event sponsored by the Asolo LateNight Series and no reservations are needed; first-come, first-seated. Contact the Asolo Theatre Festival Box Office at 941-351-8000 for more information.
