2005-2006 ‘Extraordinary Season’

Town Hall kicks off 47th season of professional theatre!

 

 

The Asolo Theatre Festival will hold its annual Town Hall meeting for the 2005-2006 season on Tuesday, October 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the Harold E. and Esther M. Mertz Theatre at 5555 North Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. The fun filled event is free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis; arrive early for best seating.

Town Hall offers a candid first opportunity to meet the actors of the Asolo’s upcoming season and learn about their roles in each play. Howard J. Millman, producing artistic director for the Asolo, will introduce the cast of resident and guest professional actors, the student company and community players for this ‘Extraordinary Season’.
Greg Leaming, director of the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training, will also introduce the second-year students who perform in the Conservatory’s productions in the Jane B. Cook Theatre. Also in attendance will be incoming Producing Director, Michael Donald Edwards.

The Asolo Theatre Company will mount eight productions in rotating repertory during its 2005-2006 ‘Extraordinary Season’ in the Harold E. and Esther M. Mertz Theatre and two in the Jane B. Cook Theatre. The season opens in the Harold E. and Esther M. Mertz Theatre with Laughing Stock, a comedy written and directed by Charles Morey (November 11-February 2), and the acclaimed Enchanted April by Matthew Barber (November 18-February 26). For the holidays, the Asolo will bring back by popular demand the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol adapted by Barbara Redmond and Eberle Thomas (November 25-December 29). 

The season continues with Trying, by Joanna McClelland Glass (January 6-April 8); Anything to Declare? by Perre Veber and Maurice Hennequin, translated by
Greg Leaming (January 20-April 27); To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, dramatized by Christopher Sergel (February 24-May 6); Lady Windermere’s Fan by Oscar Wilde (March 10-May 7); and Regina Taylor’s, Crowns, the Off-Broadway musical sensation with ‘hattitude’ adapted from the book by Michael Cunningham & Craig Marberry (May 13-June18). 

The Asolo will additionally present two plays in rotating repertory in the Jane B. Cook Theatre, String of Pearls by Michele Lowe (May 12-June18) and Rounding Third by Richard Dresser (May 18-June 17). 

The FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training will present four plays in the Cook Theatre–Mirandolina by Carlo Goldoni (November 9-27), What the Butler Saw by Joe Orton (January 4-22), Five by Tenn by Tennessee Williams (March 1-19), and Pericles by William Shakespeare (April 19-May 7).

Single tickets go on sale to the general public October 3, 2005; Season Subscriptions, the $99 Play Pass, and $25 Student Pass are all currently on sale. Subscribers and pass holders may now purchase single tickets, and receive discounts before October 15 for A Christmas Carol and December 15 for Crowns
