June 19, 2008 (Sarasota, FL) - Asolo Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce that the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego will present the 2009 West Coast premiere of the newly revised version of the 1978 musical Working, with contributions by Tony Award-winning songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Gordon Greenberg, who directed the show for Asolo Rep, is slated to direct the show again at the Old Globe. No decisions have been made about casting; however, the Old Globe has leased the sets and costumes built by Asolo Rep in Sarasota.

“Our scenic and costume shops have an international reputation for excellence in the industry. We’re very proud of the creative team and the work they do. With this show in particular, because it celebrates the American worker and craftsperson, I am especially proud that the scenic elements we created here will have life beyond our own stage and travel with this extraordinary play to The Old Globe.” – says Michael Donald Edwards, Asolo Rep’s Producing Artistic Director.

According to The Old Globe, "This beloved musical, based on the writings of Pulitzer Prize-winning author and celebrated radio personality Studs Terkel, remains a witty and unusually timely commentary on how work defines one's self-worth and connection to community. This musical exploration of people's feelings about their day-to-day existence features characters from all walks of life, ranging from trucker to housewife, waitress to corporate executive, fireman to schoolteacher — 26 in all. All of their songs, in which they describe their daily routines and discuss their hopes and aspirations, are true stories derived from Terkel's interviews with actual members of the workforce."

Working will run at the Old Globe Theatre from March 7 – April 12, 2009.
