SYNOPSIS PLACE: Maycomb, Alabama. TIME: 1935. This adaptation of the 1960 novel tells the story of attorney Atticus Finch, defender of the underclass, and of a specific case he had defending a black man from a false charge of attacking a white woman. Narrated in flashback through the eyes of Finch’s daughter named Jean as an adult and “Scout” as a child, it is in many ways a “coming of age” story as we see Scout, her brother Jem, and their friend Dill first deal with the social stigma of their white father defending a black man in small town southern society, and then gain a mature understanding of what their father really does for a living when they attend the trial. To Kill a Mockingbird is produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois.
