Sarasota, Florida (April 19, 2006) – The Asolo Theatre Company presents the comedy, Rounding Third written by Richard Dresser and directed by Stephen Rothman. Rounding Third previews Wednesday, May 17, 2006 and runs through Saturday, June 17, 2006. Opening/Media night is Thursday, May 18, 2006 at 8 p.m. on the Asolo’s second stage – the Jane B. Cook Theatre. The play comes to the Asolo after successful home runs in theatres around the country, including its successful run off-Broadway. The cast consists of James Clarke as Don and David Breitbarth as Michael. Scenic design is by Kent Goetz, costumes by Michele Macadaeg, Lighting by William Kenyon, Sound by Matthew Parker, and Fight Directions by Dan Carter.
Rounding Third is a sports comedy and the perfect comedy for anyone who has ever experienced the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat while cheering on the child they love in everything from sports to science fairs.
The play takes a funny look at America’s favorite pastime and the Little League parents who inspire the game. Mismatched coaches, Don and Michael don’t see eye to eye, yet both are right. In their struggle to drive home their opposing philosophies to the team, they uncover who they are and explore the American ideals of manhood and parenthood, and how becoming a parent changes our understanding of the true meaning of success.
To be performed in the Jane B. Cook Theatre, Rounding Third opens on Thursday, May 18 at 8PM and runs through June 17, 2006. The opening night performance is followed by a complimentary champagne and “mingle with the stars” reception to be held on the MEZZANINE. Ticket prices are from $29-$33, with special discounts for students and groups of 10 or more. Call 941-351-8000 or toll-free at 800-361-8388, or order online at www.asolo.org.
