KALEIDOSCOPE 2006
PICTURE THIS!
(SARASOTA, FL) - The Asolo Repertory Theatre and Children's Haven and Adult Community Services, Inc. (CHAC) are honored to announce that the Kaleidoscope musical theatre workshop for teens and adults with developmental disabilities will be changing lives once again this summer. Kaleidoscope is an innovative partnership between CHAC and the Asolo Repertory Theatre. The summer workshop project will be kicked off with a special reception for participants in the Asolo Rep’s main rehearsal hall on Monday, June 5, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. The media is invited to attend this reception.
This year's theme for Kaleidoscope is PICTURE THIS – A NEWSPAPER FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE. The vision for the show is a living newspaper created by the participants and the staff. We start by asking the question, “if you could tell the world your story, what would you tell?” The event will utilize multi-media elements of photos, video and visual art, along with expression through acting, music and dance.
Performances run Friday, July 7 and Saturday, July 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the Asolo Rep’s Mertz Theatre at the RinglingCenter, 5555 N. Tamiami Trail.
Tickets to the show, which help pay for program costs, are $15 and can be purchased by calling the Asolo Rep Box office at 941-351-8000.
The production will feature the directing talents of Amanda Schlachter. In addition to Schlachter: CHAC's President/CEO Peggy Connell; Kaleidoscope Co-Director Marla Doss; Dance/Movement Instructor Rachel Schwartz; Vocal Instructor/Musical Director, Liz DeVette; Visual Art Instructor/Kaleidoscope Clinician Anny Barker-Schefler; Asolo Education Director Carrie Mills; Asolo Education Assistant Maclain Looper; Volunteer Coordinators Natalie Gundrum and Carole Kleinberg; Kaleidoscope Clinicians Lindsay Letts and Karen Becker-Ramirez.
This year's Kaleidoscope program continues to create an opportunity for groundbreaking theatrical work as Kaleidoscope staff members help the participants grow as performers and individuals. Clinical goals, set for each participant, are achieved through creative exploration, which strengthens a variety of communications skills and ultimately enriches their everyday lives.
Kaleidoscope is sponsored in part by the Greenfield Foundation Goldsmith Fund.
