ASOLO REP OPENS WITH THREE SHOWS IN NOVEMBER
AMADEUS, MEN OF TORTUGA and THE PLEXIGLASS SLIPPER
SARASOTA, FLORIDA (October 10, 2006) – Asolo Repertory Theatre opens its 2006-2007 Season with three great shows in November – Amadeus, Men of Tortuga, and The Plexiglass Slipper. The November 10, 8:00 pm opening performance of Amadeus is followed by Asolo Rep’s Grand Season Opening Party – with a “Mingle with the Stars” champagne reception that is free to those attending the opening show. Each subsequent opening night also features an opening night champagne reception after the performance.
AMADEUS (Nov 10, 2006 – March 7, 2007) by Peter Shaffer. Set amidst the opulence and splendor of 18th century Vienna, raw ambition is pitted against heavenly genius. The most successful composer in the city of music, Salieri must face demotion by the entry of young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Unable to accept the limitations of his own talent and feeling abandoned, Salieri embarks on a desperate crusade. Family appropriate for ages 12+.
MEN OF TORTUGA (November 17, 2006 – March 8, 2007) by Jason Wells. Conspiracy is the name of the game in this shrewdly tailored world premiere about three men who scheme with a weapons specialist to eliminate a member of the “opposition.” But the question is how to best do the deed? And more importantly, do the ends justify the means? Suited for mature audiences. There will be a pre-show discussion with director Greg Leaming thirty minutes prior to each performance in November and December.
THE PLEXIGLASS SLIPPER (November 25, 2006 – January 4, 2007) A NEW MUSICAL with book and lyrics by Jim Luigs and music by Scott Warrender. A great big holiday treat for the entire family! Cinderella’s story takes on a comedic twist in a fresh adaptation of a classic fable of love, family, and poetic justice. Filled with hip humor and catchy songs, this new musical will have children and grown-ups laughing and tapping their feet. Family appropriate for ages 6+.
Asolo Repertory Theatre will mount six productions in rotating repertory during its 2006-2007 ‘Evolutionary Season’ in the Harold E. and Esther M. Mertz Theatre, as well as Darwin in Malibu in the Jane B. Cook Theatre and Nobody Don’t Like Yogi in the Historic Asolo Theater next door at the Ringling Museum
